North Branford Goes Purple for Lyla

By Erin Shanley/

Lyla Bogardus of North Branford passed away on Christmas Day after battling rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer of the muscle, for over seven years. In honor of her and the Bogardus family, residents of North Branford are decorating the town in purple during January by putting ribbons on their mailboxes, trees, lamp posts, etc. Free bows are available on Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Giovanni's, 855 Forest Road, Northford. Purple light bulbs may also be available for $2.
