Westbrook Boys’ Hoops Takes Two of Three; Girls Lose Two
Boys’ Basketball
The Westbrook boys’ basketball team scored wins against East Hampton and North Branford and also took a loss against Morgan last week. The Knights improved to 5-7 this season after winning two out of three on the week.
On Jan. 14, Westbrook earned 41-38 home victory over East Hampton. The Knights were down at halftime, but used to some solid defense to outpace the Bellringers 16-8 during the third quarter and ultimately walk away with the three-point win. Seth Caslin scored 18 points to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double in the victory. Jack Naccarato supplied 13 points and nine boards, while Ben Schrek hauled in 10 rebounds.
Three days later, Westbrook lost a 63-35 road game versus Morgan. The Knights fell behind early and were unable to get going against the Huskies. Caslin scored 11 points, and Naccarato had five rebounds for the Knights.
On Jan. 19, Westbrook returned to its home gym and claimed a 53-49 double-overtime victory against North Branford. Dan Perrault (12 points), Naccaratto (11), David McCain (11), and Brenden Engles (10) all reached double figures for Westbrook. Naccarato and Schrek tore down the boards by gathering 16 and 13 rebounds, respectively.
Girls’ Basketball
The Knights moved to 6-5 on the year after dropping a pair of contests last week. On Jan. 15, Westbrook lost a 50-36 decision at East Hampton. Three days later, the Knights took a 42-22 defeat versus Morgan in a home game.
Boys’ Indoor Track
Michael Gingras earned the top finish for Westbrook at the Haddam-Killingworth Invitational that was held at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Jan. 19. Gingras took fourth place in the high jump by clearing 5 feet-4 inches, helping Westbrook finished in 24th place as a team with five points scored.
