East Haven Girls’ Hoops Moves to 12-1; Boys Take Two Defeats
Girls’ Basketball
The East Haven girls’ basketball team has won its last six games and moved up to the No. 7 spot in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register Top 10 Girls’ Basketball Poll. The Yellowjackets had two matchups last week and won both of them to improve to 12-1 for the season.
On Jan. 17, the Easties defeated Wilbur Cross 67-52 behind a pair of 20-point performances from Kylie Schlottman and Olivia Coyle. Schlottman scored a game-high 23 points, while Coyle scored 20, and Alexis Pendziwater added 11 in the win.
Three nights later, the Yellowjackets dispatched Lauralton Hall by a 54-41 margin. Schlottman scored 21 points and Coyle added 18 for Head Coach Anthony Russell’s club.
Boys’ Basketball
East Haven lost a pair of contests last week and dropped to 1-8 on the year.
On Jan. 16, East Haven lost a 80-30 decision to Notre Dame-West Haven in the Martin Luther King, Jr., Classic at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Jeremiah Cureton scored 13 points in the loss, while Nick Guarino added eight for East Haven.
Then on Jan. 20, Amity defeated East Haven 61-36. Cureton had nine points for East Haven, while Guarino scored eight, Luke DelGuidice had six, and Ed Popolizio scored five points in the defeat.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
Branford-East Haven-North Branford took a 4-2 loss to Notre Dame-Fairfield/Foran at Milford Ice Pavilion on Jan. 18. The loss put the Wings’ record at 4-5-1 for the year.
