Helping Neighbors Who Struggle
Madison Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) was started in 2009 to offer support for those in our community dealing with the impact of the financial crisis. Now it’s 2016 and N2N continues to concentrate on helping neighbors in Madison who struggle to make ends meet in the current economy.
I am grateful that the Madison community has continued to support N2N’s efforts to supply oil, gas, electricity, food and gasoline cards, personal essentials at the Food Pantry, pantry deliveries for the homebound, subsidized lunches at the Madison Senior Center, camp scholarships for 12- to 15 year olds, and a Discretionary Fund that helps individuals and families facing unanticipated financial crises.
Although this season can be a joyful time for many, it can also be the most stressful time of the year for others. Imagine the added burdens the holidays place on families who, despite all of their hard work, continue to be chronically poor. One missed paycheck, be it due to an accident, illness, or something else, can make the difference between being able to pay rent or receiving an eviction notice.
Neighbor to Neighbor works directly with Madison Youth & Family Services and Madison Senior Services to determine who qualifies for N2N assistance. I encourage anyone who feels that they, a friend, or a family member may qualify for help, to please contact one of the above organizations and learn more.
I most sincerely want to thank all of the organizations and individuals in our community who have helped support N2N’s efforts to offer a safety net of programs to assist Madison’s most vulnerable.
