Police charge New London man with sexual assault

Ledyard — A 53-year-old New London man was charged with first-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct Saturday morning after an incident at the Two Trees Inn at Foxwoods.

Police said Darryl Spencer of 262 Connecticut Ave. had spent some time at the inn with the victim's friend before entering the victim's bedroom, where she was asleep. According to a police report, Spencer pulled the covers off the victim and put his face in her genital area.
The incident awoke the victim from sleep at about 4 a.m., according to police.

Spencer was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Feb. 17.
