New London — The mayor has issued an apology to property owners in Fort Trumbull whose lands were taken by eminent domain and has announced a restructuring of the New London Development Corp.

"New London is a new City, under new leadership, with a newly reorganized development agency and it is time for all the people of New London to move beyond the controversies of the past and embrace a bright new way forward for our City," Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.

The NLDC will become the Renaissance City Development Association.

NLDC President Michael Joplin will be stepping down at the end of 2012, after The Village on the Thames by Riverbank Construction breaks ground in Fort Trumbull.

New London native Linda Mariani, who is a member of the NLDC executive committee, has agreed to run for president of the new RCDA.

All changes are expected to be approved by the membership at its April 26 annual meeting.
